2N patent plate

Thanks to all that have been answering my questions. One quick one, this small patent plate that is attached right above the steering wheel, it looks factory. It lists the patents that were implemented on this particular tractor. Was this just a 2N thing, or did 9N's and 8N's have them? Maybe just a war thing? This 2N is serial #9N 117150, putting it in 1943 I believe. Thanks for all the help. John

John........the very early 9N had a hand stamped part number (562) on the cast aluminum steering wheel support bracket. Records are unclear when Ford started riveting a patent data plate on that support bracket, probably about s/n 12000 when they changed from dashpanel starter button to tranny safety interlocked starter pushbutton. Those patent data plates are thin liteweight metal and were eazily torn off.

The 4-speed redbelly 8N's had their patent data plate riveted to the sheetmetal battery support bracket above yer right toe where battery acid dissolved most data plates.

My 9N SN*1484* has a rivited patent plate. At least I think it's rivited. I haven't gotten around to looking at the back side but the front (top) fastenters are smooth like a rivet.

My 1939 9N Serial Number 9N 5429 has this patent plate and an in-dash starter button. So it must have started before that.

My 9N241 has a hand stamped number, but it is 279. I believe this was a tracking number stamped in the castings as they went through machining, so they would know what part was machined after or before each of all the modifications that were made as the line was getting started, as they got to the assembly line and had this or that fit-up situation. And they could also tell which machine tool had worked on the parts, if they kept the records for each casting properly. This would allow them to gather info on what dimensional or tooling modifications were what they wanted to keep, and set all the like mschines to produce the same way. Other large castings have the same kind (but different) of number stamped in them on my tractor.
