2N PTO/Hydraulic question

I have a '47 2N and finally got around to actually using it for work after getting it running. I hooked up my 5' flail mower and worked great. One thing I don't understand. The PTO needs to be running to use the 3 point. How do you raise the mower without having to run the PTO? Did I miss something on the previous posts? I am using a ORC. Is this where the ZANE thing comes in? Thanks!

(quoted from post at 10:21:33 06/15/08)How do you raise the mower without having to run the PTO?

You have to run the PTO to raise the lift.

If your lift is solid, you can raise it and turn off the PTO and hope it doesn't leak down.

You can disconnect the PTO shaft to the implement, and run the PTO and raise and lower.

Not too many options on that.

And yes, Zane makes a "Live Thang" that will in essence make it live hydro.

I also make a device that gives the lift position/height control not provided originally from the factory.

BiggR........yep, thats the way it is, gotta run the PTO to run the hydraulic pump. Ennythang connected to the PTO output shaft is gonnna turn too. Thats just the way it is. Modern tractors have seperate PTO control. Yer 60yo doesn't. Good on you to use the ORC.

The "Zane THANG" is a very good external position height control and well recommended. $80 (cheap)

Zane also sells a "LIVE Thang" external fanbelt driven hydraulic pump kit to supplement yer weaksister internal hydraulic pump. With Zane's "Live Thang" you can disconnect yer PTO drive and still lift yer mower. ($600, not cheap)

Most just gitt used to the mower blades turning when lifted. Iff'n ya have a ways to go before you mow, disconnect yer mower snap-coupler and let the PTO shaft turn in air. Simple, eh? ........Dell

That what I did. When I shut the tractor off I lower the mower roller onto a block to get the flail blades away from the gravel in the shed where it's parked. When I start the tractor the mower is in the air somewhat and can start the PTO, lift the mower and back out. I'm spoiled, always had tractors with live PTO, but I "needed" this 2N, or so I told the wife. Neat little tractor. Thanks for the help.

You can also add depth limit chains to hold the laod up for you and use that as a 'transport mode' do as to not have to finagle with the 3pt as much.
