2N rear rim

Im looking for a new rim for a 2N. None of the rims I see online look the same as the original rim on the tractor. Are the original rim styles still available? I also see they come in different widths. What was the original width of the rim.Calcium chloride has rusted the rim out. I spent a couple hours trying to get the tire off the rim. It isnt worth the effort. Plus the tire and rim are no good anyways.

You have an original Ford box rim. They are not available new.
If you want a box rim you will have to search the junk yards for
a good used one. The replacement rims are called loop rims
they look different but will bolt up fine.

Word of caution. Some China made.rims have.the loops welded on
the same side of the rim as the valve stem hole. You want the
loops welded on the opposite side side the valve stem is on.
Often the incorrect rims are painted yellow.

The original rims ( aka hat box rims ) are NLA new, but do show up occasionally on eBay and other tractor sites for a premium price.

The new loop style rims will work fine on your tractor. Usually about $160 each with shipping.

If you have to have the original look, most of the rusted out hat rims are repairable!

Are you possibly confusing the center and the rim? The center bolts to the hub using the closely spaced 6 bolts in the inner edge. The center also bolts up to the rim using widely spaced 6 bolts on it's outer edge. The rim is what the tire is mounted onto.

9N/2N centers are NLA, but I don't see anything wrong with your center, at least from your photos. You need to remove your center from your rim. If you are having a hard time with those 6 bolts, use a torch to heat each of the 6 nuts red hot in turn, quench with a penetrating oil, and quickly follow with a good impact wrench.

28 rims are spendy but easily found. The rim width will depend on the width of your tire, so make sure you purchase the correct 28 by x width rim.

If you do in fact have a bad center, they are not too hard to find at boneyards, or on craigslist. If you are in Minnesota, I can point you in the right direction.

I guess I dont really care what rims I put on. As long as theyre the same type. I think the inner rim is in good shape. But I think the hat box wheel is too far gone
for me to try and repair. My neighbors tractor that weve been working on has the loop type on one side and the hat box rim on the other. So maybe I can make a
deal with him and get one type or the other from him. Colin I live in Minnesota, but Im gonna look around little bit and see if I can find a rim. If I cant find anything
maybe I can try some of your contacts. Thanks everyone for the replies Dale p.s I thought I would send a picture of the 8N weve been working on.
Pretty much everything that needs repairing is done. Were just waiting for spring so we can paint it.

I'm just going to add that the OEM FORD TRACTOR rear Wheels were originally 7 x 32 and used the 9 x 32 closed center 45 deg bar tires ---- NLA. The rims used 'loops'
tahtwer cast steel and riveted on style. Soon FORD released the 9 x 28 Wheels that used the 10 x 28 tires. The 10 x 28 tires used then are now the same as the 11.2 x 28
ones as they measured tire width differently back then. New aftermarket rims use 6-loops but not the same as the early 9N rims. You can use the 9 x 28 or 10 x 28 rims
with the 11.2 x 28 tires. Ca Chl for ballast caused many OEM ones to succumb to cancer. ALL 9N & 2N rear wheels used the same center discs. They were made for both 32
and 28 rims. The 32 was soon obsolete and only the 28's were used there after. When the 8N Model was released in July, 1947, it now had a new center disc but hat rims
remained the same. Center discs are NOT interchangeable. I have a nicely restored set of Hat Rims, never had Ca Chl, have the FORD/KELSEY-HAYES stamped logo inside and
shown here with 8N centers. I have a set of 9N/2N centers to unrestored but will exchange if you are looking to buy, last shown in pix - your choice email open.

Nice looking project! I'd be happy to help out. My email should be open in the classic forum. Whereabouts in MN are you? I'm west of Long Prairie.

Colin I live in Monticello. I dont get up that way too often. I have a sister that lives in Bertha. Ill keep you in mind in case I need to find parts. I had the brakes apart and clean them up. Now I have to order some axle seals and new shoes. Once I get that done the tractor should be ready to be used. Its not much of a tractor but it was a fun little project for the winter. It was a friend of my neighbors tractor that had been on their farm since it was new. It came with a Dearborn one bottom plow and a Dearborn cultivator.
