2N work light

Does anyone know if the early work lights on the 9N and 2N tractors did not have a switch on them. I noticed on the 2N’s I have neither of the work lights have a light switch. My Neighbors has a switch on his 8N work light. I’m thinking that maybe the switch came out later on. I’m pretty sure they were a dealer option and not installed at the factory.

Correct on dealer option, switch should have been installed with lights. Do you happen to have an extra hole in your dash? Mine (2N) is at upper left. Be sure not to add the switch downstream from the ignition switch unless you want to replace the latter frequently ;) Mine is powered from the same stud on the OEM ballast resistor that provides power to the ignition switch as well. You can pick up a fused (recommended) switch at any auto parts store, I'd think - that's where I got mine (replacement for the non-fused switch that someone before me had installed).

I only have the headlight switch on the left side of the dash. The wiring ran back to the work light in the back also. So when the headlight switch was on, all three lights came on. It also has a tail light. I have wiring schematics and photos on how to wire it once I’m done painting it with a new wiring harness. I just wonder if the rear work light should have a switch on the light,or if some rear-work lights came without a switch.

Replace it with a modern switch from your auto parts store. They have multiple terminals and multiple positions to control multiple light systems.

The "restoration quality" work light I recently put on my 8N has a switch on the light itself. Powered by the same circuit that feeds the headlamps. I replaced the switch with a marine-rated one since my tractor has to sit out in the weather.
