The engines are easily interchangable between model years; it could very well be a 1942 2N w/ a 1946 engine.

Tramp.......while it could be a 46'engine transplant into a 42'tractor. I doubt it. More'n'likely, the previous owner didn't know. And seriously, it don't matter unless yer a sphincterly challenged originality inspector. The parts are the same. And yes, ALL weakly handstamped 2N-engine serial numbers start with 9N. .......respectfully, Dell
