I'd like to get my first cutting done but there has not been 4 straight day in a row with out rain here in my area of Missouri. Been working on getting a 2nd sickle bar mower set up so if one breaks down I have a back up

I'm thirty miles north of Mankato and the beer can balers (road ditch) haven't even started.

@old - We just bought 200 bales of second cutting for the horses for this winter. Vendor is local. Most of the rain seems to go north of us, over to Camdenton and your area. In your valley it probably doesn't dry out very quickly. Best of luck. zuhnc

I bought an old crimper this spring. Makes a huge difference in how fast the hay dries. That is one of the nice things about a haybine or discbine vs a 3 point disc mower.

Does a crimper help dry grass hay? Most of mine is meadow hay.

Mine was mostly grass too. It helped mine. It probably depends on the specific style. Mine has very aggressive steel rolls that interlock almost like two gears and bend/crush the hay about every 3/4 of an inch. Not like the rolls on a new holland haybine, much more aggressive. Mine is a David Bradley brand crimper.
