Nothing wrong......normal when no-load on gen.. Connect it to battery and all will be well. Your cut out or wiring is the problem.

My problem is at cut out can..still 20 volts when i hook up to resister...it burns out condenser
the cut out is New

What about when you hook up battery? What voltage then?
Your correct..after i re hooked to battery charging 6.3 volts...thrird brush wont increase...but 6.3 im ok with.thank u kindley for assistance..im 80 yrs old..dont get under hood like in 60s 😂

You are welcome.
I got 2 on ya, so not so much here either. :(

Adjusting screw? Moving the third brush closer to the fixed brush increases the output amps. It's for limiting the max output. Delcos have a screw on the end plate to clamp the position, Autolites have an internal spring.

This dont end...generator failed so installed new generator single pole + grnd.
Now get 7.75 volts to cut out...when hooked up to resister..only 6 volt getting to battery...i must be doing sum wrong Or cut out went Bad
Any advice ☺️

You are probably not really connecting to "resistor" but, hopefully the bottom center terminal which is only a junction point. If battery is near dead, it will take a while for voltage to rise, as it charges. 3 brush generators are self limiting as far as current goes and if battery too dead, it will be a slow charge. Try shorting acrossthe two cut out terminals, just in case it isn;t closing. The cut out will not close if wired backwards.
