I have a 74 ford 3 cyl gas 3000. I've noticed that lately when pulling a 479 haybine and you get into a hard pull uphill that the tractor starts bogging down and I've been dropping a gear and keep going. I have been cutting hay with this tractor for 4 years it normally when you start pulling hard that the governor kicks in and rpm s stay up. I've changed plugs, wires, and points and condenser, and I think that the vacuum advance isn't working correctly. I have pulled the choke out when this happens and it really bogs down, so I think its getting plenty of gas. How can I check the vacuum advance to make sure that it working correctly? Today I noticed that the vacuum line going to the vacuum advance was loose so I tightened it up. But got the hay cut last night, today I raked the hay but its not enough load to make it bog down.I'll be baling hay Thursday and there is a couple of good hills that I can put a good load on the tractor and see if that was it. I have about 2500 more bales to do so I really need to get it fixed. Any advice or help would be great.

Thanks Joe C

Hook up a timing light, remove the vacuum line from the distributor and put another temporary tube on it. Start engine, check timing and suck on the temporary tube going to the distributor. If the vacuum advance is working, the timing will advance and you will see it using the timing light.
