My "49 8N rear blade just quit going up and down after clearing two driveways today. oil level is good, handle seems to move right and not stripped on shaft and nut.
Any ideas?? what to look at or tear apart??

Thank you

Yes the pto shaft is turning. I have the left hand lever ingaged and can hear the gears turning. It will not go up or down. the blade is about 5 " off the ground.

pull the dipstick inspection cover and make sure the rod from the top is actually moving the valve in/out in the pump.

I just did and the lever moves a small amount foward and back, maybe a 1/2 inch or so. should I empty fluid out and do more or just take off the top under the seat to find problem?

Thanks

It well may be a stuck control valve. Remove the right hand inspection plate and with the touch control handle about half way of the quadrant see if you can move the control rod back and forth. If not keep wiggeling it and it may come loose.

Dirty oil can be the problem along with built up sludge in the pump chamber.

Thanks to all of you its fixed

just like you said, behind the dipstick cover I used a large screwdriver pryed a little forward and back and then more prying to the front of the tractor, and it snapped, or the plunger become unstuck and the blade fell down to the ground, and it now works perfect
Couldn't have done it without you,

if you rip it apart BEFORE finding the problem.. be prepaired to renew EVERYTHING, somnce you havn't narrowed it down any.

research first.. then fix...
