3 point concrete mixer

Anyone have much experience with 3 point/PTO type concrete mixers? How big a batch will they really mix? Catalog ads usually list a capacity but that seems to be total drum volume, filled to the brim.

Thanks

My son has one - we used it mostly to mix block mortar, and it worked good. Have also poured some small areas of concrete - pump house footings and stuff like that. Don't know the cu. ft. of it - it's slow, like all small mixers, but very portable. The local ready mix plants have a minimum charge that forces the use of these little mixers for small pours.

I have a regular old mixer with an electric motor. It's rigged to ride on my three point bale forks, and works good also, but you must have 120 volts available to run it. Another cheap option. . .

Jack,
They work great. I have one on the back of an 8N. The best part for me is no need for a wheelbarrel. Back the tractor up to the pour site and use the hydraulic lift.

The worst part is loading the mixer so I took two old gasoline stands ($20 ea. from a junk yard) and made elevated loading tanks (one for sand & one for gravel. I use the loader on the tractor to fill the sand and gravel tanks. I use 5 gal. buckets (on pivets) to measure the sand and gravel into the mixer.

The mixer I have will hold a 90# bag of PC, 180# of Sand, 270# of Gravel and water to mix with no problem. So I guess that is about a 5th of a CY. It takes about 10-15 min. to make a batch.

I wouldn"t want to pour a basement foundation with it but for footings, piers and repair projects it is hard to beat.

Good luck,

Dad had one in the 60s, there is a trailer park in Canton MO that was built, all of the side walks piers and wash house with that mixer and a TO 20 Fergie. I think everybody in town used it at one time or the other!
