3 Point Hiccup

1970 3400 3 cyl gas. I have had this tractor since the 80's and the three point always had a slight hiccup with the arms up. I recently acquired a Gannon scraper that is much heavier than my Land Pride box scraper. The hiccup has increase, I assume because of the added weight. I had the cover off a couple of years age and did not see any obvious damage. The lift cylinder looked fine, no big scratches. I was not able to remove the over-pressure valve (if that's the one near the parting surface) Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Since packing is merely a rubber O ring, it's easy to see why it wears out. Would be nice if it were similar to what you find in stand alone hydraulic
cylinders. I have a '65 2000 that I did not too long ago and got rid of most of the problem. The little bit left isn't worth me going back in and being nit
picky on what I would replace.

May I add 1 suggestion. Ford O rings some have a square side instead of being compleatly round.Just to compare old ones and make sure they are like yours. If you need square ones they have to come from Ford.Hope this helps. P.S. aFord mechanic told me this years ago.

Interesting. Giving you more sealing surface is surely a good idea. Since an O ring is moulded, seems like after markets could mold a square ring just as easy....unlike some items which are just made in a tube and sliced off.....which could work too.

Funny, imported oil filters (Japanese in particular...Honda) use O ring seals whereas domestic use the square ring. Figure.

My 75 3400 was doing all sorts of wild things. Buy a lift cover rebuild kit and also check out the diagrams on NH's website. I had to order a bunch of orings n such separately b/c for whatever reason no one makes a true rebuild kit...

Replace that overpressure valve also, those can go bad and leak.

Mine works perfect now and doesn't constantly hiccup/correct.

Thanks for your reply. I have the cover kit but not the over pressure valve. Does the cover have to be removed to replace that valve? I'm considering replacing the piston o ring after Christmas. (the time luxury I have with a 2019 Kubota L47)

I'm not one of those that knows everything about all year models but on my 75 it can be removed with the lift cover on. Just gotta take the little accessory cover off

Jeep,
You replied to a 2 week old post using
modern view. Did you know it does not
even Show up on classic view? I only saw
it because I clicked on the Todays Posts
button which I don't often do. If you
want your posts to be seen by the
members here who use classic - which is
the majority of us btw - you need to
learn how to use both views.
Adding modern view was the worst thing
to ever happen to these boards.

I can not understand why Y'all hard-heads stick with classic... Once I got use to modern view classic became history... Different stokes for different folks : )

Jeepster, there is no logic to it. It is just because the Forum is YESTERDAY"S Tractors, frequented by many of YESTERDAY's people who are determined to delight in sticking to things and ways of YESTERDAY.
