3 point lift

I had the problem with the lift not lifting any weight, and then not going back down. Well now the lift is lifting strong, but it still wont go down. I released the drain pipe plug and it immediately went down, so does that mean my exhaust valve is not working properly, and if so can you buy that part only?

It is likely just stuck or the passage to it clogged. Replacing isn't in the cards until you have manually moved it and/or made sure the passage to it is clear.

If you have changed the oil and the sump, and the exhaust valve is hanging, try adding some diesel to the oil to really thin it out.. let it mix a bit.., lift the 3pt half height, and then shut the engine down, lower the lift handle, then go back there and grab the 3pt drawbar and lift he lift to full height manuall, now slam it down under 'arm' pressure pretty harply a few times... It's got a low probability of working, if you just have a bit of grit in the exhaust valve.. but i have seen it clear then.. it's free.. and won't hurt nothing if it don't work.

Considder it a last ditch free chance before surgery is involved..

A sticking valve/s is a possibility. Also there is a spring that retracts the control valve/s and if it is weak or broken you will never get it to work right until it is fixed.

Need to know what model tractor it is too to give better information 9N/2N or 8N. The older lift has a different return spring than the later 8N.

it is a 49 8n, and I took the pump apart and all the springs seemed to be ok, and I didn't really find any trash in there either, but I couldn't tell if the valves were any good or not.

There isn't a lot to that EX valve. It is basically a cylinder of metal moving in a bore that when moved toward the rear of tractor (during lift), covers a hole/slot in wall of bore. Then to drop lift, the valve (cylinder of metal) is moved toward the front of tractor to uncover the hole/slot, thus allowing the oil to exit (dump) from the piston. Until worn, that is a very tight clearance, typically less than 1/1000th inch, so it doesn't take much to cause it to stick.
