my 3 point will go up and down easy as hek with me standing on arms close to rear end but going to pick up a 2 row cultivator it shakes going up and wont go up all the way up but if you pick up with your hands just a tad bit the lift goes up right away. what do you think the problem is never took off anything to inspect and dont know how anyways. a guy down the road said he thought it might be a little cork gasket that is blown dont know figured you all smart ones know what is going on the tractor is a 43 2N and if you barely help it it will go up no problem with weight on it or if nothing on it goes right up also cannot be something major is it?

you have a leak somewhere in the system. looking in the instection plate you should be able to see where the leak is.

I am having this same problem with my '47 2N. It will stop about half way with about 150 lbs. Then I have to help lift it and it will hold it up.
It will lift and hold a 75 lb blade fine though.
I figured I'd wait til summer to take a look at it. It needs to make it through the snow plow season before I dig into it. :)

Graybeard.......would you believe removing the PTO shifter disc for lookie-look? It just lifts outta the PTO drive. Remember, NO drive, NO pumpy, NO leaky. While we usually recommend removing the hydraulic dipstick plate, the Howard gitts in the way .......Dell

[b:4b032028e6]How do you check for hydraulic leaks on an 8N with a Howard tranny? [/b:4b032028e6]

Dave, you may have to remove both inspection plates to get a good look around. As you can imagine looking at the photo, it's pretty tight with both shifters in place.

quit talking to the guy that mentioned a cork gasket. there is a cork friction disc and that ain't nowhere near your problem.

open the inspection port and look for oil squirts or streams.. especially from the mouth of the cyl... if there is turbulence near the relief it may be ready to be repalced too.

mor ethan likely it is a well worn cyl bore letting your hyds fluid bypass without lifting.. and pump volume is so low it can't make up for it.
