3 pt lift not working???

I just bought a NAA and the arms don’t lift. I was told that the oil was low and they added some but still no lift. Could it need priming? Pto works. Will I have to pull cover and pump? If so how is that done I have done 8Ns years ago. Also the clutch was “stuck” they pulled the tractor to free it?? Is changing a clutch in this same as clutch in 9N? It has a Sherman as well

Note, I have experience with the NAA piston type hydraulic pump.... none with the vane type.

There are literally hundreds of comments on Ford Hydraulic Lift problems, the FO-19 I&T Manuals have a great section for troubleshooting the system in a proven sytematic way.

For your NAA, the first step is to vent the hydraulic pump.

Loosen the plug on the top of the hydraulic pump. The pump is on the right side of the tractor and has the "tractometer" connected to the rear end of it. The vent is on the front end.

Run the tractor until all the air is out of the pump. You are suppose to connect a hose to this outlet and run it back to the hydraulic fill plug but most people just vent out the oil to a waste can because the oil is usually full of air.

If you get a lot of air, tighten the connections under the tractor and on the pump, if you still get air after that, you should tear the pump apart and buy a gasket kit for it $8.38. It is not hard to install. There are more complex kits available as is a new shaft, pistons, etc.

Pay close attention to the shaft. There are a lot of problems with air leakage around these old shafts if the shaft is worn / corroded.
