I looking at buying a 9n tractor but the 3pt isn't working any ideas for me to try prior to buying it. The folks trying to sell it don't know much about grampa's orignal 9n.

Hi John,

with the tractor NOT RUNING the Check the fluid level in the trans. Pull the hydraulic control lever all the way up and rotate the pto shaft by hand and see if the lift arms move up. If they do then the hydraulics are working. If you test it wit the engine running then the pto has to be turning for the hydraulics to work

Post back what you found.. the lil trick awith the tractor off, and pto disengaged, lift lever up, and spinning the pto shaft is a good one I use when i see an N on the roadside for sale.

If it's not simply what the others said about the PTO the control linkage on the 9N/2N sometimes comes loose from the control valve in the base of the pump.
