300 Air Cleaner

One of the last steps on my 300 Farmall rebuild is to clean the air cleaner. This one was very dusty in the mesh element, it appeared that the oil level hadn't been maintained. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the inlet pipe didn't extend down to the oil, it's only about 1/4" past the mesh. The dirty air can by-pass the oil as it is now. My question: Is there an extension that goes into the bottom of the inlet pipe to reach the oil bath or do I have a defective air cleaner?

Sounds like new. The tube should not extend into the oil. It will pick up oil and keep the mesh wet. Soak it good with diesel of solvent and let it drip dry. It will self clean through use.
