While looking at my Tractor and Farm Equipment Guide I noticed under extras it shows a heavy duty clutch available for $30.Would you 300 guys know if this is the dual plate clutch?I have never seen any reference to a heavy duty clutch only single or double plate clutch. Here is a picture from the book.
Thanks Nick

The heavy duty clutch plate G11079 is for the single plate clutch. Top pic.

Standard duty clutch plate is G11077. Bottom pic.

Do they use the same pressure plate?
What years did they use the dual plate clutch?
Thanks Nick

I have only worked on one double plate clutch. As I remember clutch plates were about 8"? dia. The double plate clutch was an option in 300 & 300B 1956-1959. Double plate clutch parts as in the pic. Also requires different flywheel (recessed), release brg (narrower, w/roll pin stop), drive line shaft (longer splines) & hyd pump shaft (shorter). Not a minor interchange.

I haven't used the single plate clutch HD friction plate. It is not listed in the 300 parts manual (R.I. A324) but is listed in the 300B parts manual (R.I. A377). Listed as "G11079 Plate - driving, with facings (heavy-duty for spark ignition engines)".

The dimensions given are the same as the standard duty single clutch plate G11077. No separate pressure plate listed. I assume the separate friction facings and metal backing is used as a heat sink to reduce fading.

The manuals I have (parts and service manuals) sow only the double plate clutch on the early 300's. The 350 parts and service manuals only show a single plate, as do the 200B, 300B and 500B. As Joe (Wa) pointed out, there are different types of plates available, and the later/bigger models had larger diameter plates (10" and 11") .

My guess is the 300s were introduced with a double plate clutch, or it was an option on the early models, but it was discontinued before 1957. - Joe

I think Joe Y. is right on the double plate clutch being discontinued, it is only listed in the 1956-1957 300 parts manual not the 1958-1959 300B parts manual. The one I worked on was a '56 or '57 round nose 310 utility. I don't see any reason for not installing the double plate clutch in a 300B if all the parts are available.

Heavy duty single clutch plate G11079 listed in 300B manual hub dimensions are 10 spline 1.125" dia. I was under the impression that the plate was 9.25" same as standard duty plate G11077 as the pressure plate G11002 is the only one listed in the parts manual. May be some larger dia plates not listed, seems like that would take a larger dia pressure plate, none listed that I can find.

Thanks for the replies,
Also the pages I posted are for the roundnose 300's,there is no mention of the heavy duty clutch for the 300b model. Nick
