300 sparkplugs

Gentlemen, having trouble with fouling sparkplugs. I was wondering what your thoughts are about hotter sparkplugs. The tractor only gets light duty workouts, such as log spitting, grading a mile long road, most of the time unit is at idle or slightly above that, i generally cover the radiator with plastic to build heat. 300 seems to foul plugs every couple of months. I was reading that it is possible to purchase adapters for sparkplug hole and install platinium plugs, which would be less likely to foul. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated

Depends on what plugs your fouling now and how they foul. I switched many of mine to Autolite 386s several years back and they started fouling soon after. Switched to 388s with little improvement. Then I heard about Autolite 3116s. After switching to them, no more issue. I would recommend the hotter Autolite 3116.

I never had a fouling issue with my H, but I did notice it runs much more smoothly with autolite 3116. So I run that in my H, C and Super M. Havent replace plugs in the H or C in years.

I agree with the 3116's, but have you tried turning your main fuel adjustment in? As long as it doesn't miss under load you'll save fuel and carbon production by running it leaner. Also make sure you have the idle mixture set to idle lean. I don't know about 300 carburetors, I think the distillate carburetors are like the H and M, where you turn the idle mixture out to lean and in for rich. Gasoline carburetors may be more conventional, in for lean.

I agree with leaning out the carb - if your sparks plugs are fouling with carbon imagine how the rest of the internals are carboned up. Just remember to reset it if you use it for something that will give it a workout like a brush hog.
