300 vs TO20

My brother and I went down to another farm site a few days ago to do some finish mowing and decided it was time to see which was faster: the Ferguson TO20 with Sherman overdrive or the Case 311 with Triple
Range. So once we got on the gravel road we toed the line and let er rip.

Anyone care to wager who won that race and what the top speeds of both the tractors ended up being? (I used a GPS speedometer phone app to record the speeds)

Guessing the Case was faster. In my family, I have a 351 triple range. Brother has 8n with sherman overdrive, and other brother has my dad's 1650 Oliver with special high speed gears. I think the Oliver is faster (due to much bigger tires if nothing else), but once I get my 351 back together we are going to have to have a race to see who is king of the hill.

Neighbor That I tractor drive with has an Oliver 1550 diesel with the high speed gears, the GPS I have on the 560D shows his will run 22 MPH. Last ride I was on a fellow had a Case 430 diesel with the triple range, he never said how fast it was.

Well I'm putting my nickel on the 351 as long as you had to go more then quarter mile. Know if my memory severes me right are 530 triple range got up to 23 mph. Back in 1969 after the homecoming parade we dropped the floats and Dave said I race yeah to the grade school on his jd 4020 the distance was over a mile. Well it didn't look good till I hit 4th direct double clutched and 4th high I caught that darn 4020 and smoked him!! Word spread out the land that a CASE beat a Johnny!! God bless Gregg

Well folks, sadly the 311 did NOT beat the TO20. The 311 was doing 20MPH with the throttle wide open. The TO20 was making 31MPH and smoked me.

Ill stick with my 311 though as the live hydraulics, triple range, and hand clutch are far handier than a top speed of 31 MPH.

I do wonder how fast the 300BH with the "high speed" rear end will go.

I have a TO-20 with the sherman over/under and a 289 Ford V-8 in it. It will blow the doors off my 310. If I wind it tight enough it will go 50 MPH.

Over here in my part of the state, there is hardly any gravel roads you'd want to travel that fast. The frost boils of winter have become the bogs of spring. lol btw did you get those "combine plots planted before it commenced to rain"? gobble

Tom, the Rye is looking really good and we should be able to pick it in a few weeks. I still need to finish up the sickle on the A6 though. That is on my list of to dos.

300 should be the same or close.

Our 430 gas with the "High Speed 4th" will do exactly 30MPH. Our 630 Gas with the "Low Speed 4th" will do about 22MPH.
