3000 diesel Ford Battery

My Cousin has a battery issue. The light comes on before it's started, and goes out when brough to 1000 RPM. Generator is charging, but when you park it , the next morning the battery is dead. Any help will be appreciated.

COuld be the cut out relay in the voltage regulator is not releasing when the tractor is cut off,, and thus running down the battery. Could also be a bad battery.

What is the voltage of the battery? How do you know it's charging? Have you tested the battery?

Are you saying gen lite is on all time with key off or comes on when key is turned on?

The gen light comes on when the key is turned on. and the voltage of battery is ok.

Suggest he removes the ground cable from the battery when he shuts the engine down and leave it disconnected until he needs to start it again. If the battery is dead the next time, the battery is bad. If the battery is still charged the next time, the problem is elsewhere. A car my daughter had did that. It turned out to be corroded connections at the battery.

The gen light comes on when the key is turned on. and the voltage of battery is ok.

My 5000 does same thing, takes about 1000 rpm to put gen lite out. I would look for dirty posts or bad battery.

It is not uncommon for the black corrosion that forms a think layer that almost looks like a coat of black paint, to allow a high amperage draw, like cranking, to make connection, but will not allow a lower amperage flow, like charging. You battery terminals, and cable ends need to be nice and shiny.
