3000 Diesel question(s)

Here's another question. I can't find a dip stick for the gear box or rear end on the Ford 3000. Is there one and where is it? If not, how much fluid goes in both?

Again, if there's a web page or spec sheet that answeres these basic questions I'll take it. Probably save everyone time answering dumb questions.

Actually an owners manual and a service manual would answer these questions.

You got the iron.. now you need the paper.

rear axle and hyds share a sump.. look near your right heal.. directly across from wher ethe diffy lock is.. there will be a pipe plug ahead of the axle trumpet.. this is the level check plug.. pull it, and fill oil int he rear axle till oil dribbles there. filler plug is on the rear casting, top side, right rear.. u=( under yer right but cheek area ).

Also, the tranny and differential do not share oil on these models. There is another pipe plug on the tranny. Same side for the same purpose.
Differential uses Transhydraulid fluid meeting Ford 134 D specs. About 5 gallons. Tranny uses 80W90. I think 3 gals. Don't forget to lube the steering box too. Factory calls for 80W90 but a lot of us have replaced the plug with a grease zerk and pumped in a tube and a half of John Deere Corn Head or 00 (Double ought) grease.
And get you a manual. It's a good read. Cover to cover. Beats American idol any day.

Actually Ford now recommends 134 in both cases!

Yeah, I gotta get a manual.

I used the 134D oil in both the tranny and back. Read somewhere (besides here) that was correct... better be, stuff"s expensive these days.
