3000 Spindle Issue

The thrust bearing went bad and when I dropped the spindle out of the housing the bearing cup stuck in the housing. Anyone know a trick to getting this cup out of the housing?

Ice pick, old screw driver, and/or various chisels... get the pointy thing under a lip of the stuck item, tap and peel it out of the groove in the housing. Carefully work all around the groove till its clear. Thrust bearings have pretty thin covers on the bearing that peel off and get stuck in the groove as you can see. Sometime I have to give one little spot a lot of work to clear a bump out, but so far all of them have come clean with a pointy object and a hammer. Loader tractors almost always need at least one bearing replaced. Note,, I have broken 3 spindles now on a 3000 with a loader... so wipe it down and check carefully for cracks. They develop cracks that slowly spread over time and will eventually fail.. Always can see half of the crack is shiny and new, the other half is dull and very old from years of abuse. Luckily they are reasonably cheap and available for a whole spindle when that happens...
