3000 transmission question

Been dealing on a 3000 gas that has a straight 4 speed. No high/low stick. I have not seen the tractor in person just from photos.

I always thought the 3000 transmissions options were:
1) SOS
2) 6 speed hi-lo
3) 8 speed hi-lo

The owner verifies that it has one stick coming out of trans, with 4 forward/1 reverse and the tractor does NOT have LPTO.

Any info. would be appreciated.

Probably an older one. Yes they made them with 4 spds. A little fast in first. Some guys wouldn't have one because of it.
What else does it have? Differential lock? PS? Diesel?
4 sp, gasser with no diff lock and Armstrong I wouldn't pay over $3K - $3.5K for.
But I would still take it over any prior ford with the same options.

I have the 3000 in diesel with an 8 speed. There are many times when I need the hi/low stick. I would not buy a 4 speed. Not only will first be too fast, reverse is scary fast. I also would not buy a gasoline tractor. Diesel is the way to go- more power, no tune-ups or temperamental carbs, starts every time even after sitting for years.

ditto what ud said.

wort case scenerio is that it is a 4spd, gasser, no ps, no diff lock.. it would still be better than a 641 series ford..

You might be thinking about the 8Ns with their toooo fast reverse. I had a 2000 w/4spd and don't remember reverse being unusually fast. Faster than a twin stick tranny yes but not outlandish.

A friend of mine has a 3000 gasser with 4 speed.

It's a low cost version without live PTO, PS, differential lock, etc. It also came with 5.50 X 16 front tires.

I much prefer any of my 55 - 64 4 cylinder Fords.
