300U hydraulics

Greetings all - My 300 U has a non-working hydraulic system. Last winter in the cold is required draining out the juice and keeping it in the house until the next plowing session required it. Now it does not work at all. I want to know if the problem could be in the pump itself or a plugged filter screen. I am looking for the easiest place to start and I don't think pulling the hydro tank is it. Any thoughts welcome.

Start with the screen and filter - low hanging fruit. Not working in the cold makes me think water in the hyd. oil. That said, cold will cause slow hydraulics even with new oil.

Did you operate the tractor with the fluid drained? If so there could be real wear on the pump, causing a low pressure situation. If the Regulator Safety block (between the hitch control lever, and the reservoir) has a plugged pilot screen or restricted orifice, the system will go on demand all the time, creating heat and slowing the starter motor. My 350U has a working pilot orifice, and is always in near zero system pressure unless a control valve is moved. Item 10 in the link. No hydraulic can be several things: the drive splines at the clutch pressure plate can and do go bad (If the PTO works, that is not it). The orifice mentioned could be causing issues, the intake screen can be plugged and collapsed. (in the reservoir). The pressure regulator valve could be stuck open causing no pressure. Does the engine seem to go under load when a lever is moved? Let us know what you find we can help. Jim
