3010 carb issues???

I have a 3010 with a zenith 12510 carb. It starts and runs decent. My complaint is it will smoke very excessive when you have a constant load on it and you suddenly lesson the load it will puff some smoke. it will also smoke if you do a quick acceleration. I feel like it has a high fuel consumption. (I know! I know! 3010 gas tractors will make you go broke). when I first got it I had to adjust all the linkages for the throttle because it would only idle at 1000 RPM cold and 1200 at operating temp. Now it will idle at 900 at operating temp and 800 cold.

I've heard that one thing that could cause that is the acceleration valve under the acceleration pump sticks open and dumps excess fuel into the air stream. I'm planning cleaning the carb and replacing the jets. I am wondering if I should also replace the acceleration pump above the acceleration valve.

Any extra info of what to look for, or suggestions on what I should replace or look at will be a big help.

I might call the dealer tomorrow and see if they have a better kit or if I can get the acceleration parts and gaskets.

I will definitely replace both the accelerator pump and check valve. Should I also replace the accelerator jet or emulsion tube.

I found this kit on the internet and it has the acceleration valve, pump and jet. Its kind of pricey but it includes everything but the two cast carb pieces and needle bearings.

First, that is the correct carb for your tractor.. And is an easy carb to rebuild.. I will give you some suggestion.. Troubleshooting-- outside carb, 1- Load adjust Tee screw about 2-1/4 turns out or so?.2- Are seals on the choke and throttle shafts good; not sucking air?.3-Throttle and choke disks centered and screws tight, use thread lock??. 4- Clean strainer screen on the inside of fitting where gas line connects to carb? Inside carb- 1- Was big center gasket bad, sucked in? 2- Check float level 1-5/8 inch? 3-Is needle and seat holding the gas? 4- Is the venturi tight in its bore top and bottom ? Is its screw holding it TIGHT, a little thread lock.. 5- Is main jet and accelerating jet tight with gaskets? 6- Is acc-jet good? check--can you blow through it but can not suck air back??- 6- Accelerating pump, the pistons, do they fit in bore good?- should have clearance of .001-.002, no scores or scratches. Check acc pump center shaft inside spring has three notches on shaft, piston should be in center notch. Check valve at bottom of pump; is it clean and disk free? Parts?? try Roberts Carb Repair or Stiners Tractor Parts..

I dont have the carb off the tractor yet, I will do that tonight when I get home. I have the idle adjust at the recommended starting point but I have the load only about half a turn out and that seems to get me the best results, I was thinking the gasket going to the intake manifold might be sucking air so Im going to try spraying a little water or brake clean on it while its running to see if that has an effect when running to know for sure.

Before I order the parts I will disassemble the carb and check it out to see what needs to be replaced. Thank you for the help I will send a picture of the inside and the parts when I get it taken apart

I took the carb off the tractor. Before I took it off I sprayed some brake clean On the gaskets and the throttle/choke shafts. When I took it apart I might have bent one of the float pontoons but after I measured the height it was only 5/8 and its supposed to be 1 5/8. The accelerator piston looks good and the bores arent scored. The piston rod was in the shortest notch. The accelerator check valve does not have the small disk in it. Is it supposed to???

I can not blow through the accelerator jet on either side.
It looks very dirty on the inside and its not really a varnish looking grossness, its more of a carbon and grit. I would assume that a timing issue could cause the soot buildup in the carb. Everything looks very old and tarnished the only thing that looks new is the main jet and adjusting nettle.

The accelerator valve should have a disk.. Be careful pulling out.. note how it is in.. make a tool to
drive back in.. The acc jet, try soaking to free up ball and spring inside. Use a tag-wire to open up..
Are the choke and throttle shafts OK - esp at bearing and bushing areas ?? Soak everything in carb cleaner
or E-85 gasoline.. All will come clean.. Parts- try if want ? robertscarbrepair.com.. Can buy individual
parts you need.. Gasket, seals and small parts only$ 29.00 or so.. Can get jet or valve if needed.. Site has
real good pictures..
