3010 questions

Im looking at a 1960 JD 3010 w/loader, in reasonable shape. I
use old/antique tractors in my 300 acre operation and was
wondering if the slow throttle response of the 3010 impedes it in
any way. Loader work, field work, etc. Some information I have
read suggests that the slow throttle response is due to the
crankshaft driven balancers, while other information suggests
that the absence of a injector pump advance system contributes
to the rather slow throttle response. Also, with all the controls on
the dash..it looks like it may be somewhat cumbersome to
operate a loader, and other SCV equipment... ..pushing the
clutch in throws you backward, when you need to bend forward
to operate the hydraulic valves??? Comments?

We have a 4020 gas tractor with scyro range tranny like that 3010 and it makes a REALLY good loader tractor. I plumbed the hyds. in to a seperate valve for the loader which works alot better then using the hyd. remotes out the back.

If the seat adjustments are freed up you may be able to get it adjusted to work better when pushing the clutch in.

Now I never really was a big fan of those 4 cyl. engines. I just don't care for the way they sound. I guess some of that is the slow engine response you talked about ?

RE: dash mounted controls; I suppose it's what you're used to. Have got an early model 4020 that's had a fel on it since 1965 or '66 and another one that's had a front-mounted blade for better than 35 years. The dash-mounted controls are not an issue. Sold our 3010 in '68, but I think the scv box is similar to the 20 series; if you choose to use the scv instead of a separate unit, the flow rate can be increased by turning a screw on the box under the hood.

we have a 3010 we use on the farm it doesnt have a real slow response when you pull the throttle down it goes but it helps that the injection pump is turned up a little. wouldnt get rid of the tractor for nothing makes a real nice hay tractor.

I've been very happy with both the 3010's I've owned, but they were both LP tractors, so I only had a lag in power when I let the points get out of adjustment or they needed new plugs. I installed a loader on only one of the tractors, and, I will say that when I depress the clutch I experience loss of hydraulic power because one of the pumps disengages.

Thanks, as I will be using the 3010 as a back up loader tractor this loss of hydraulic "power" will/might pose a problem in hard pack manure, et al..Somewhere along the way I think I read that one of the pumps is transmission driven... why I don't know.. but will find out.

The hydraulics can really be enhanced by plumbing into the tractor and returning to filter cover. This has been covered many times by B&D and several knowledgeable JD enthusists.50 years of progress have improved most everything in tractors.3010s are handy, fairly simple and 60 H.P. will only do so much.Just watched a real nice 2510 gas sell on BigIron for over 7K.
