3020 Color Question

Yes I know... ANOTHER John Deere color question, but please bear with me. As I'm water blasting, needle gunning, and paint stripping my tractor down preparing for paint this summer I have blasted off a few coats of paint... one was a coat I put on with a rattle can right after I bought the tractor 6 years ago. I painted it JD Ag Green rattle cans bought from the dealer. This basically matched the existing paint on the machine which has been painted at some point in its past (cracked bondo on the hood told me it wasn't original JD paint).

When I was hot water pressure washing I pulled some paint off from the fuel tank area that is clearly a VERY different green... almost a pea green. This shade has shown up on a few different parts as I've been preping them but the fuel tank area pictured is the best example I have.

My question is: Am I seeing the original color of this 3020? Its a 1967 for what it's worth. If that's the original color I'm not sure I'll repaint it that color... but I think its worth knowing!

Different paint formulations fade to different colors. For example you may have gotten down to a layer with lead in it with totally different properties from what was put on next. That area would also be susceptible to soaking in antifreeze at some point or another which breaks down the paint and changes the color significantly.

Can you find anything on the underneath side of the hood that would tell a story while being more protected from some exposure to antifreeze and such?

Under the hood is the same green seen on the frame rails in the pic. “Ag green” or close to it. I’ve seen some pea cream on the nose plate and it looks to be on that entire plate seen in the pic, so I don’t think it was an antifreeze stain. Kind of a weird paint color.

I’m going to paint it green and I’m sure it’ll look great. :)
