3020 hyd pump out, can it move?

Early JD3020 synchro range diesel. I have a 48 loader on it. was using it the other day and the pump started making a whining noise and power steering, loader controls, and brakes went out. I believe either the front pump failed or the coupler failed. i dont think its the coupler as i said, the pump started to make a loud whine noise. Anyhow, my question is this---is the tractor driveable in this condition or will driving it harm something if the front pump is not working?

If you're just going to move the tractor to the shop or a trailer you should be alright. I would probably disconnect the hydraulic pump coupler to prevent further carnage if that's what failed. You may or may not have any steering though. The transmission should be alright because your lube pump will still be running as long as the clutch pedal is released.

I went out to a 4250 powershift one time to fix a failed pump coupler. Got the new couple installed and the engine wouldn't turn over. Disconnected the coupler and tried turning the pump by hand and it would only turn so far and lock up. The hydraulic pump shelled out which had failed the coupler. We were still able to drive the tractor onto a trailer and bring it to the shop without the front pump working

I suggest to perform good hyd diagnostics before considering re[lacing frt hyd pump. Frt pump whining could be front being robbed of adequate supply oil from trans pump circuit. I think you can drive tractor without harming frt pump. What type valve controls fry end loader?
