3020 PS Problem

Working on a 3020 power shift. Just finished installing new brakes due to the old brakes starting to come apart. Problem is and it did this before my brake repair.. When you put the tractor in reverse, the engine bogs down before the tractor starts to move. Forward works like normal. Also when you go to neutral reverse the tractor will not roll on a slight incline, feels like there is a brake on. Forward neutral will roll. Also when shifting through the gears going down the road 7-8 feels like it takes awhile to get up to speed, feels like you have slight pressure on the brake. I did rebuild the c1,c2 and pto last year, maybe i did something wrong? I have rebuilt them before without problems, clutch pack pressures were in spec after rebuild. Any help will be great!

I checked pressure on every clutch pack. all pressures look normal. all packs engage and disengage when supposed to according to the chart.
Seems to get better as the transmission warms up.

Do you have the OEM Technical Manual?

If so, did you read the section on checking for transmission drag? (A certain amount is NORMAL.)

After going through the clutch drag tests.. When i was checking c3, b4, b3. With the direction selector in neutral position and speed selector in 1st, the tractor moves forward quickly!. I had the cover off the transmission to replace the cork gasket and all brake packs had clearance and discs did not look warped. Im thinking c3 clutch is toast. customer stated this winter he put the tractor in reverse and the tractor went forward instead. all starting to make sense.

"he put the tractor in reverse and the tractor went forward instead"

If the toggle mechanism in the shifter is badly worn or sticky that can happen WITHOUT any serious internal transmission issues.

NOT real hard to get to the clutches, though, if need be.

Are you familiar with them, they have metallic/brass "facings" on them, NOT "paper" I've seen them with the internal "teeth darned near worn off, but have never seen them "burned" as we are accustomed to with automatic transmissions.

Thats what he said, I told him originally that is was probably a linkage problem in the shifter. But today i unhooked the directional rod at the shift handle, put it in the neutral position and put the lever in 1st forward, the tractor went forward at about half speed if everything was hooked up normally in 1st forward. in the book thats what it says to do to test c3, b3, b4. when i had the cover off the trans i looked at all brake pack clutches, all looked normal. Makes me believe c3 discs may be warped? I did not find ant clutch pack material on the suction screen, just brake material. Oil was also dark.
