3020 PTO

hello all,

my older deere tractor was parked but running the other day. Running about 1200 rpm the pto was on but nothing attached. The tractor was at idle for 10 minutes when it sounded like something let go. Like a broken valve spring or something. I heard a bing and than a small clatter, was light. I turned off the pto and it stopped. Turned pto back on and I heard it if I increase the rpm the sound is worse. When pto is on all shafts are turning when off everything stops. Is the pto clutch lost something or would be at the shaft. Is this a major breakdown ? Would appreciate any advice! It is a deere 3020 . If I have to split the case any where I can get the support tools ??

First off, take the inspection cover off under the clutch and see if any spare parts fall out.

RESIST any temptation to stick a paw up in there while the engine's running!

The pto throw in bearing probably disintegrated.

Just as Bob stated look up in inspection hole for loose parts.

Well I took the inpection cover offf and nothing fell out! When I run the tractor now and the PTO it is a whole lot louder. The bearing for the pto looks in when piece but when the PTO is engaged it does a chatter a little. I would say it moves back and forth an eigth of a inch or so.
I suppose that movement alone could be telling the bearing is shot ??

Finally had time to split tractor cause I saw the end of the fingers for pto gone.

The the fingers our gone.

The bearing is still together. do I need to replace it?

The rough or locked up brg is more than likely what wore the ends of the fingers off
