3020 seat suspension

I was baling hay in kinda rough ground when I heard a pop and then noticed I'm sitting at an angle. The seat is sloped down toward floorboard. What couldve broke to cause this? What I did for temporary use to finish baling is I took the 2 bolts out that holds the cushion to the frame up underneath the seat and got 2 long bolts and used nuts and washers to build it up soni wouldn't slope down. Makes it more comfortable but I want it done right. Thanks guys

Could be several things failed on seat suspension including the spring.

You think its better to rebuild my
suspension or get one online. Appears to
be $550. Would a salvage one be worth
getting or it would probably be wore out
as well

I agree Tim is good choice but anyone with mechanical skills can rebuild the seat suspension. I suggest to take several photos while disassembling to make reassembly easier & CORRECT

Parts including a new shock absorber will run $150- $175 and couple hours if you do it yourself. Probably have a loose bolt in a pivot bushing that finally wore through. They're not hard to repair.

Tx Jim I noticed looking from rear of
tractor up under the seat, looks like a
piece has broke off where a long bolt
goes across. Looks like its part of the
rockshaft housing but its right up under
the seat suspension. You can tell it's
been broke. Maybe a pic would be more
helpful

I think you might have a major issue. It looks like the casting has busted and someone also stuck a long both thru from one side to the other. There are supposed to be two short wheel-type bolts that hold each side plate to the casting, not a long bolt. I can't see what the left side is doing but the right side is def. busted off. I am not sure what you do after 2 or more of the cast ears break off. Probably not something where a weld would ever work. A new top plate maybe. The reason those cast ears break off is from tractors that sit out a lot and the four bolts rust in place t(he long bolt probably contributed as well). The tendency is to get a huge breaker bar and exert a lot of force..and then pop the whole ear breaks off. Have only had it happen once. But it looks like that could be your issue.

I had the same problem on my 4010.....IIRC, a part of 3point equipment had something that come up and hit the seat when it was fully raised. It broke off the ear just like yours.

I fixed mine by going to a local salvage yard and buying a replacement. I think it was $100 for the complete rockshaft housing which was a good deal for me. Took a while to install it, (you will need a service manual).

Good luck!

I just now read this post,, yes your suspension is worn out, I can see that from the picture, and your mounting bolt hole has broken out,,all a bad thing,,you will find that your bushings have worn through the holes too in all the brackets you can make some of those parts, and like Clif said they are not nasty to re-build but you can get mixed up on the parts after you disassemble it,, the bolt hole can be welded up, would help if you can find the broken part of the hole..

I took the seat off and unhooked all the lines and cables; then used a cherry picker to pick it up and roll out of the way. If both sides aren't busted, a good welder might be able to repair your broken bolt hole.

Good luck!
