Have a 3020 SN 90570 24 volt. Starter just clicks once when you push the starter button. After several
times it starts fine. Have changed starter button but still does than same. Where do I look for problem.
Thanks

I would first check for weak batteries and/or corroded/defective/loose battery cables and connections.

Have Father in Law's 4010 that was on 24 volt. I changed it to 12v. Much simpler to maintain and no sacrifice in performnance. I would not change it back. In summer runs fine on one group 31 battery. I used 3 wire Delco alternator as it already had the charge indicator light.

starter solenoid is bad,, there is a contact washer inside that will get a burnt spot on it,,which acts as an insulator,,as you play with the button the contact washer will jigger to where it makes contact,, the next time it wont,,save your self a lot of misery and change it to 12 volts..

Starter relays in this worn condition can also suddenly arc and weld them selves to gather, very exciting. Trouble shooting the 24 volt starter relay circuit can be interesting. Almost easier to just change the relay.

You.can also disassemble the relay, (remove the two nuts and seals on the two studs powering the coil.).
Then disassemble contacts and washer, file them square and reassemble.
In.the 50's, even key switches had spare parts.
