for those of you that are more familiar with these machines than I am, I have a straight 310 backhoe, the powersteering never really worked, and there is evidence somebody before me was in there , left some things not put back together
the other day the side cover on the clutch housing started gushing hydraulic fluid, the parts book shows gasket part number 21527, on page 155 http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/pdfs/PC4136.pdf
but the thought occurred to me that maybe there isn't supposed to be that much fluid behind that cover , least not under significant pressure, having the powersteering intermittently working if any at all one must wonder what if the seals and valves are so bad I am loosing a lot of hydraulic pressure internally which finds its way to the clutch housing
looks like somebody resealed that plate with some rtv at some point, I also see some welding on that plate as well as other questionable work, the dash is all loose, the steering wheel is missing the top nut.
looking at the parts diagram I cant figure why would there be any hyd fluid behind that plate, maybe someone else can shed some light
George
