Dan the engine is a 148 same as a 300B/400B and 31/320, 420B loader/backhoes, later 148 was in the 430/470, the tractor in front of the gararge door must be a friends? and in all truth I think the best thing to do with the 310 it haul it down here to rest in peices at my place LOL just kidding that will be one sweet unit when your done with her, I will get the manual dug out and sent to you cnt tom

You know Tom,you have to help the neighbors out and store some junk for them too!
I know I can lean on you when in trouble Tom

Ande, Judging from the front axle you have a 300 ultility tractor. You're proably right that it had a loader on it once upon a time by evidence of damage to the front grill. Something abused the heck out of it. Does it have 3pt hitch, lift arms and the like? I have a narrow front, general purpose 300, a sweet little tractor.

Hello David,
Yes,it has "Eagle Hitch", you have posted your "300" havent you?

310 with the down muffler, hand clutch and looks like the regular (non HD) front spindle setup as you can usually tell by the bearing cap. The other is bigger. My 56 148 gas engine was running on 2 and 1/2 half cylinders and still sounded ok prior to the complete $2500 rebuild.

You can check the archives for sheet metal, gauges, front grill and side panels etc. Fenders were tough for me to find in good shape as they were not interchanged with a lot of other models.

I bought a service manual and parts book. I can not tell you how much that PARTS book helped me during restoration. The pictures alone are useful. I would not try the job without one. Service manual reprints are available and needed also.

If you decide to restore a lot you will spend way more than the resale value unless you are really really lucky. But many of us don't restore them for resale value anyway. Just like bringing them back to life, especially when they are really good looking tractors. [/img]

Rasman, thanks for the information, and the pic of your "310",she is showroom.
I agree with you on the investment, and that is how we need to look at it,as the value is just not there, but agree with you why we do it.

Nice -My 310 was used on an orchard in Massachusetts since it was new. The chemicals -rough uneven ground -ditches in the orchard took its toll.Especially the chemicals and its effect on the sheetmetal. The cross bar on the loader made it hard to access the fuel tank so they pried it up and must have finally cut a hole in the hood. I used it to make a living for 10 years and like it better than the newer tractors comfort wise. With a good high back seat it fits like a glove. Who in thier right mind would want something like a ford in those year sover a case. The rear is heavy -good for traction for its HP they pull great. Hey i think I am prejudiced. But I love my case. I have a bad #1 cylinder in it but I need to finish some work on the home with it before I disable it this winter.

I am never surprised at the stuff the owners did to these tractors because they used them as tools and a means to make a living. Many times the 'Field Fix" is simple... my 56 310 had the sheetmetal cut to create direct access to the engine with the davis loader on. Wasn't enough to throw away the side panels... took a saw and cut the front sides and spot welded them, then bolted the "new" access panels back on. Now the top and rear sides could be lifted off with the loader on. It was expensive and time consuming to fix though!
