can a 310 waukesha gas block be used to build a 310 diesel engine ?

One time I came across a new 310 short block
for an 1855 at a dealer liquidation sale.
Changed the cam and pistons. Put the timing
cover assembly on from a blown up 310. Used
old head, pump, etc. 20 years later it is still
running.
