310G Case Steering

Well, I'm pretty sure its in the differential, still not sure why it use to be good then all of a sudden it is not, but well I took the drive shaft off, turned it by hand with the brake locked on that side and it was doing good then it hit a spot where it acted like it had a short tooth in a gear or somethin, spun free then started working again. Which gear if any might this be and is there any way to get to it short of pulling the diff. out? If I do have to pull the dif out what all needs to come loose to do it?

You might be able to tell something by draining the oil and taking the back plate off of the differential to look inside at the gears. Good time to check the brake shoe linings and adjusters too.

I have completely tore down my Case310G crawler loader transmission and have become very intimate with its innards. You can remove the shifting housing on the side of the transmission and if you are lucky you have a broken tooth inside the transmission which can be serviced without removing the whole thing from the tractor. If it is in your differential you have to remove the whole transmission from the tractor. The final drives have to to be removed to get to the bearing mounts that hold the differential in place.
