311 carb problems

replaced the carb on my 311 with a new zenith and now the thing drinks fuel. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I think I will order a rebuilt Marvel carb and put it back to orginal. The original carb got dropped when I rebuilt the engine and must have had a crack in it because I could never get it to run right(air/fuel screw always had to be screwed all the way in).

This may solve your problem with the Marvel carb.
Located in the bottom half of the carb is the idle transfer port that directs fuel to the top half/needle.

No matter how flat the carb bodies are it can and will leak at this point.
Take a small fibre round gasket, that will encompass this fuel delivery port .Make sure it stays in place when you put the carb back together.

Do this work? Yes!

My Dad's 611-b ran like terrible for years.
Would not idle, screw made no difference, lowest idle was about 1200 rpm's.

I had tinkered with this carb many times and had never had sucess. Finally one day i had enough and came up with the fibre washer.
Put the carb back on and it was instantly fixed.
Easy to set idle at 450-500 and be totally reliable, could get down to 400 but she was loping a little to much. Idle screw actually is adjustable.

been running fine for 3 years now.
