Got finished mowing.Drove back to the house and switched it off.Got ready to put it away for the night and it has no power on the dash, no starter, just dead.I checked battery connections and still nothing.Any thoughts? By the way when it was running after it got up to operating temp it would start surging up above normal RPM load or no load?

if you have no power to anything, inclduding dash lights, check behind the dash under the hood. there are 2 inline fuse holders. over time these develop poor connctions to the fuse. check the fuse with an ohmeter, and if they are good, then wiggle the fuse holders and see if things start working again. if so, replace the fuse holders with new ones. I replaced mine with the blade style holders, rather than the glass tube type.
