3220 front lug bolt specs?

The yanmar parts manual says the 3220 uses 14mm-25 lug bolts as told to me by my local yanmar dealer

However, i cannot find a 14 mm-25 lug bolt. what does the 25 stand for? Is it the thread pitch or threads per inch? Im not sure
what im looking for.

Also, if the thread holes in the wheel axle are stripped what size die would you recommend i buy to fix it

Could it possibly be 14mm-1.25? If the threads are stripped you would have to go with a heli coil or the next size larger. The wheel holes might not allow you to go larger.

The 25 probably refers to 25mm length; however it could be 1.25, 1.50, or 2.00mm thread pitch. I would think any hardware store or bolt supply house would have them. Obviously you would need to match up thread pitch.

You can use bolts out of a hardware-store bin in a pinch but lugnuts have features that make them more suitable. If the Yanmar dealer can't supply you, there's a store in California called The Lug Shack. I'm sure they're on the web, and that they will answer your questions and supply you.

My YM2000B just uses standard cap bolts, of unknown hardness, not lugnuts.

You're most welcome. For your interest, M means metric, 14 is the diameter in milimetres across the outsides of the threads, and 1.25 means a pitch of 1 thread per 1.25 mm of length (more precise than just "fine" or "coarse"). Code markings on the head designate the metal grade (strength).

You would still have to find the right length (though a little too long can be compensated with washers). Also the recommended torque -- which would be predicated on Yanmar lugnuts. And there's a rough tightening sequence you should follow.

As for what oversize drillbit and tap (and bolts) to get, that would depend on how far gone the rim threads are and what's available (won't be cheap). If it helps, Helicoil does make product in M14X1.25.

ordered the 14 mm x25 lug bolts from HOYE for the 3220D. They are NOT the right size bolts. The ones HOYE have are 14mm but they are a coarse thread. The original lug bolts are a fine thread which turns out to be a 1.50 (2.00 is coarse. 1.5 is fine and 1.25 is even finer)

went to carquest and found 14mm x 1.5 lug bolts that will work. Bought a 14mm 1.50 tap and chased the damaged thread holes in the wheel. The new bolts threaded in smoothly.

so know you know if you ever have to replace the lug bolts for a 3220, that the ones advertised on the HOYE site are coarse threads and will not work.

In defense of Hoye, the Japan-market 3220 is quite rare over here, so yours was likely the first call for front lugbolts. Now we know, thanks to your report.

Normally one would just take a bolt to a hardware store and match it up, no problem.
