Feeling dumb today! Need to take off oil pan. Well take all the bolts out . Not a big deal. But how do you get enough clearance to drop it down? With the oil pump still on and the fill tube? Simple job not to simple to day. Any help would be appreciated thanks

To make life a lot easier pull the bracket for the stay ball. I'm not sure what you mean about the oil pump as it is on the side of the engine and drives off the timing gears.

That model has one piece front bolster which makes things difficult. I never had to take the pan off the German engine in that model but I think you can take the fill tube off pan like older German engines to help move pan down and out.

Yes the stay ball in the front and one big peace. The oil pump is bolted right below the crankshaft. And the fill tube is welded to the pan .

Pete, I was unaware of the one piece bolster. What about the oil pump is it in the pan? All the germans I had all drove off the timing gears except the commines.

Some of the Neuss (german) engines do have the oil pump inside. I don't think we ever sold one with it but don't remember for sure. At any rate, with oil pump in pan and fill tube welded to pan, I am thinking, off comes the whole bolster assembly.
