35 D overhaul Questions

Got a few simple questions.

1. the oil pick up has a few spots where the screen isn't attached... major issue? it's not away from the housing the screen is just loose from the brazing.

2. can I just make all the gaskets out of gasket material? or should I wait till I order a gasket kit?

3. any recommendations on where to pick up gasket kits?

4. 40w oil right?

I'd try to braze or solder the screen back together. It probably won't hurt anything the way it is, but I'd feel better! haha

I bought a NOS gasket kit off of Ebay but found that most were too shrunk to use even after soaking, for the simple paper one's I'd make most of the gaskets myself. I did cheat and use silicone in a few places.

My memory is fuzzy who sells the kits new, I think Deere did at one point, I think http://www.farmpowerrestoration.com/ has them too. You will want a head gasket kit at least for the head gasket and the tappet cover gasket. The rest of the tractor gaskets are usually pretty simple.

40w would probably work, I usually use RotellaT 15W40
