35 misses and stumbles

Hi,

I rebuilt the Z134 motor (completely) and put it in my 35. Runs nice. Plenty of power - pulled a 5' flail mower through knee-high grass in 2nd gear no problem.

It was missing so I replaced the (old) plasticware in the distributor and life got a lot better. Some tweaking of idel and main mixtures helped more.

It has a very occasional miss now, but more interestting is how it reacts to a sudden load. If I drive from a mown area into knee-high grass, the tractor initially resopnds perfectly - it barely slwos at all and throttles right up. moment or two later- even if still under load - it stumbles for about 2 seconds then catches itself. This si very very repeatable.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

The one idea I have is the float setting. It may not be quite right.
I'm not familiar with that engine, what plasticware is in the distributor?

cap, rotor, dust cap. If the rubber oring on the dust seal erodes, the whole cap sits a little lower and there can be interference betwen the rotor and the contacts in the cap. I went through the carb as part of the rebuild and it seemed set well.

Ah, that plastic ware. I had never heard those parts described like that before.
