3500 ford w/ backhoe

(quoted from post at 17:11:28 04/27/09) does anyone know off hand what the gpm v/s rpm and rotation of pump

Front crank powered pump, right?

Probably ccw and 16-20 gpm at 1800 rpm. That's a generic range with the lower end stuff being smaller than the industrial stuff that is on the higher end. Pressure is probably 2000 psi at 150-165F. I don't have specs for your machine, but that should get you close. The downside of going smaller is the machine will be slower and if you go bigger the machine may be "twitchy" in operation.

I prefer larger, but it's a preference.

i can't find your machine with a backhoe in the ford on line parts books. the only pump shown is a vane, with 5.3 gals.go to fairfield tractor.com and follow the new holland parts search to parts lists

The pump is part of the hydraulics package for the backhoe and wouldn't be listed with the tractor. The 5.3 is the tractor internal pump, not the externally mounted crankshaft pump.

The hoe is probably a 10 ft series 750 hoe. FNH lists that as being one for the 3400 tractor. The pumps listed for them are all gear pumps. Specs listed are 16.0 gpm at 1800 rpm and 2000 psi pressure for one and 15.5 gpm at 1600 rpm and 2000 psi. (the second pump is LARGER than the first one if you note the rpm).

It is possible that the backhoe and hydraulic package on the 3400 is a non-ford item or that the pump was replaced years ago. But the Ford pump parts pages show the above specs for a Ford hoe and they are what I would expect for a hoe that size.

poorplowboy;
I just did a quick look at the new holland web site's parts search page with the key word "backhoe" then clicked on the 750 series hoes and looked at the mounting kits. They list one for the 3400. Knowing the right questions to ask helps!

It is a 753 backhoe on a 3500. Don't know what the front loader is on it. There is a tag, but there is no # on it. It is a crankshaft type pump. It mounts w/ a 2 bolt mount vertical bolt pattern with ports on left and right sides, and a 7/8 13-spline shaft. Has a Vickers vane pump on it now. (Want to go to a gear pump) From what I found out the one that is on it now is only a 13gpm pump. It is not enough, only getting 1000-1500 psi. I am willing to modify the bracket it mounts to, I have not found the right pump for it anywhere I have looked. P.S.<filter and oil change made very little difference>

This one is about the right size. I just did a quick look and it was priced low and has decent specs. There may be others that are a better fit. You would have to change the mounts, but it looks like it would be pretty easy. I don't know how the in/out port matchup looks....

I have a Ford 3500 backhoe. It's a 753 backhoe with a 735 front loader. The front pump on mine is a Cessna gear pump that according to the numbering on the flange, it's a 10 GPM pump. Amazingly low flow. :( It uses an SAE type B mounting flange. I just ordered a replacement 25 GPM pump from Northern Tool for the tractor. I will have to modify the drive shaft because the new pump is a 7/8" shaft with a 1/4" keyway. I hope this info is helpful.

My 3400 with a 753 hoe has a 13 gpm vane pump and puts out 2k psi all day. Controls are responsive, I guess a higher volume pump wont hurt anything, you may to feather the controls a little more often.
