3600 ford tractor

I'm new to this site and would like to know if anyone could tell me if power steering pump for the 3600 pump #d8nn3k514ea can be replaced by #e6nn3k514ea99m. I am having trouble finding the right pump. thank you so much in advance

New Holland parts site shows the current part number for the 3600 p/s pump as either part number E6NN3K514DA (without a cab) or E6NN3K514CA (with a cab), but I don't know why having a cab would make a difference as the only difference between them is that the first one is 650 psi and the second one is 850 psi.

The E6NN3K514EA99M pump is 1100 psi and is for 4600 and larger tractors. I wouldn't recommend putting an 1100 psi pump on a system, that was designed for only a 650 or 850 psi pump.

Searching on the 2 part numbers above shows that the 850 psi model is no longer available, but the 650 psi (E6NN3K514DA ) is, but it's pricey. I can only find it as a true New Holland part number and it's over $800.00. The 1100 psi model knockoffs are around $300.00 on ebay, but they are 1100 psi. There was one on ebay that had a note that said that it could be adjusted to a lower psi, so I would probably go with one of those and adjust it down to 850 psi or lower.

Sean, I have been looking at some on E-bay, also the problem is I wouldn't know how to set the pressure to 850psi. Thanks for the help

The 1100 psi pump will fit and work. It will just cause higher pressures at certain times. The pump will flow a certain amount of gallons per minute (GPM) with no restrictions and doing no work. Anything that causes restriction to the flow will cause pressure. Normal operation of the steering causes some restriction to the flow and some pressure to build, but as long as the cylinders are moving you will not reach maximum pressure of the pump, and it should not cause pressures above 650 or 850 psi, but when you turn the steering wheel to the full stop left and full stop right positions, the fluid has no where to flow and the pressure will build higher. Also, if you have any restrictions/blockage in the system the pressure may be higher than normal for that system.

So if that's the only pump you can find at an affordable price, you can use it. I would just be careful to back off if you find yourself steering to the full stop position in either direction, and change the fluid and the filter more often than the maintenance schedule calls for.

What the higher pressure is going to do is shorten the life of the seals in the steering cylinders and the control valve inside the steering column. How much it shortens them is based on how often the pressure goes above 850 psi.

Sean, I really appreciate the information, you have been a lot of help. I was wondering if I got the "o" ring kit would it mess up the pressure to install it, was just wondering? Thanks

I'm not sure which o-ring kit you're referring to . Are you talking about the rebuild kit for the p/s pump? That should not change the pressure. The maximum pressure is regulated by a pressure relief valve that is internal to the pump, and the relief pressure is adjusted by adding or removing shims in the relief valve.
