Has cutoffs on the front but has factory flats on the back.

I would have to check my 1935 JD-B manual on that one. My 1935 B has flat spoke wheels but they are factory steel and if I remember right the rims for tires should have been round spoke ones not flat

Ive seen B's with factory flats on the rear (NOT cutoffs) and I like the looks of them. My 1938 Long Frame came with spokes on the rear but factory flat disk wheels on the front.

That fancy seat is a cast iron Deering seat. Not original but it sits good.

John T that is a very nice B you have there. My very first B I got was a 38 with factory rounds on the back and disc in the front. That is when I was 12 yrs old, Dad got it for me for Chrismas. I am 50 now and still digging in them!

I believe the factory flat spokes where replacement wheels that came out in the early 40's. You can bolt different spline hubs into these.

The tractor did not seen to show a lot of wear, it actually ran when I got it but the head gasket was blown and push rod tubes were bad letting water get in the oil. It smokes a little now after running it. I will probably ring it eventually.

Could well be. I do know a good many of the old steel wheels with the flat spokes got cut off and a tire type rim welded to them which I'll never do to my B but then it has history as in I played on it when I was a kid

You are exactly right. There were no flat spoke, rubber tired wheels ever factory installed on unstyled B's. The wheels you have are 100° JD, and correct add-on/replacement wheels for any tractor that you had the correct hub for. They came out in late 45 as retrofit for all tractors that they would fit on. I think these days, the wheels you have are about as valuable as most of the spoked wheels, and more than some.
Very nice looking tractor. Having cutoffs doesn't always mean the tractor started out on steel. Do you know how it was originally equipped?

The JD archives show it originally came on skeleton rears and regular steel on the front.

In the John Deere factory Unstyled B parts book #PC0676 it shows part #JD 1270R that is a "spoke type 7.50x36 or 9.00x36 rubber tire" and that's a flat spoke rim.

I've got a 39b sn60xxx built and shipped in June '38 on flat spoke rear rubber from factory confirmed with two cylinder documentation.

The pictures you see in the latest revision of the parts book, PC-676, are not what you would have seen in the original, period correct, parts books.
The picture of JD1270R is correct though. It is a retrofit wheel that came out in 1945 and has open center hub so you can install it on the tractor of your choice, with the correct hub. You notice the steel wheels on the same page as the flat spoke, rubber tired wheel? They too have open centers and supercede the previous (original) wheels. Too bad JD didn't keep all original art work and just add the new stuff in the revised editions, but they didn't.
