380 ford industrial

i found a 380 industrial motor i was thinking about putting in a 3/4 ton pickup i found the adapter for a trany it is complete

my question is how much power do they have and how are they on fuel

120hp without turbo.Three gallons of fuel or less under full load. This is a great engine in a combine or stationary unit but I have heard some people say that this engine in the Ford D series trucks didnt hold up very well.If you found the trans adapter you better consider yourself lucky because that one will probably be the only one you will be able to find. These engines were real popular in the U.S. in the 1970's and 80's because both Ford and Newholland used them in combines. Now unless you go through marine outlets you wont hardly find anything for them.I have several in my combines and around 10 complete engines for parts and in 14 years of combining I have never had any problems with them.Look up Lehman 120 in the marine parts on the web and you will find some good info. The way I understand it the marine world has this basic engine turboed and intercooled making 275 hp.Hope this helps.

do they have just a pulley on the front or do they have harmonic balancer on it it should hold up in a pickup it has only 400 hours on it is there any dirfence on the motor for been turbo or none turbo ones

They made at least two different balancers for this engine. One is a big one pulley unit that has no bolt holes for an extra pulley and one is made like a car pulley with bolt holes so an extra pulley can be added. All of the turbo motors I have seen have been 363 cubic inch and were in earlier Newholland combines. My book says the crank in these was made out of different material for the turbo.Im not sure what other differences there would be.Just food for thought-the injector pump on a 380 power unit will have govenors designed to keep it at one constant speed without moving the throttle and Im not sure how this is going to work in a highway application.

i now a guy took out a 372 perkins diesel out of a combine and put it into a 250 ford he broke the crank cause there were only pullys on the front not a balancer he said the pump wook ok on that one
