seriously thinking about a case 380b;what is the engine? seller claims a perkins, search of net says david brown. Also doe it have a 480 type reverser and transmission? I'd like to know more before buying and seller seems clueless. Information or web address for info appreciated.

Neither a Perkins or DB. It is a little IH.

The 3 cylinder DB engines were out of production by 1985 or so.

The earlier 380 Loader landscaper and 380CKs were DBs.

If the tractor you're looking at is like this spec sheet scan it's a David Brown 885 rebadged for the construction side of the company. I've had a 885 since the early 80's and it's been the most reliable thing on the place.

The printing on the specs will be quite small, you might have to save it to your pictures file and view it that way.

(quoted from post at 18:03:00 12/16/12) The only listing for a 380 on external_link, is for a
380CK

The "B" version is an entirely different tractor. Very similar if not the same as a 385/485 CaseIH, built in Doncaster, not Meltham. NOT a David Brown.

As to the Perkins... lots a misinformed/ignorant folks out there automatically assume an engine is a Perkins if it is diesel and comes out of Britain.
