'39 A No reverse

My '39 A #479224 will not go into reverse. It has a 4 speed gearbox. Also have a hard time finding 1st., it's like the detents don't line up with 1st. But when I push the shifter to the left for reverse it just won't budge.

Any things to try before I pull the top cover?

Can't think of any -- pull the top and have a look, ain't gonna fix itself - that's why tractors have humans. P.S. humans were invented by water to transport itself from place to place -- think about it ! b
