39 A Question

Have you "stroked" any other tractor before? They all have the same issues depending on how big you go. Rod cap clearance, block clearance, cam clearance, cylinder clearance.

If you stroke it very small, you may not hit any of these. If you stroke it very big, you will hit all of these and maybe more.

The hard part with any 2 banger is that you don't simply unbolt the flywheel, main bearing caps, oil pan, and drop the crank out the bottom.

With a decent splitting stand, you could have the crank out of a 4 cyl gaser by yourself in one night. For your A you had better plan on two guys for 3 nights to get it out of there.

No Way that it will take that long unless you are having a beer party. I can remove the crank out of a running A in one evening by my self.

umm - beer party..

Oil to the rockers; I was looking at my 39 A too and asking the same question. Looks like the rockers are fed through the tube that comes from the governer. Goes into the top of the valve cover and through that peice on the top inside of the cover, drips down on the assemblely?

My question too is how much oil is supposed to come out of that tube? Mine is a fast drip and am wondering if thats enough.

There is a drip tube from the govenor case that goes into the rocker cover, then inside the rocker cover the oil runs on a trough that has some drip holes where the rockers are.

I have a 7 3/8" crank in my 39 A, you can talk to Josh Blackburn about doing a stroked crank, let him know what kind of power you are looking for and he can set you up with a combonation that will produce what you are wanting.

Josh cut and rewelded my rockers and added 5/16" to my rods, and reworked my carb. I am very happy with my power and with the work Josh did.

His number is 989-277-5366.
