My boy has a 39 h and the other day he
wanted to move some of the tractors out
of the shed to get out a couple of the
others and when I drove the h out man is
it ever noisey like the governor gears
are maken all the noise. There is good
oil psi and a oil line to the governor
out side housing. Is there any way to
quiet it down for the noise. The a and b
that I moved didn't make the noise like
the h does. Thanks for any input.

Is the fan shaft shimmed properly? Good quick way to tell is how much movement is there when you try to turn the fan back and forth.

If it was noisy on the way out it was noisy on the way in its not a polition that changes at WILL its a machine , yes it would be the fan shaft ears , nothing else in there

If the noise reminds you of the sound of a scalded cat, it is probably the fan gearing. The noise usually results from installation of a used gear set and improper adjustment. If the gearing was adjusted properly when new, and they have worn from years of service, they usually aren’t noisy, but they will have a lot of backlash that can be seen from moving the fan back and forth.

Here’s an excerpt from an old Field Service Bulletin that describes fan gear adjustment. They also discuss some solutions to reduce fan gear noise.

Thanks guys I'll tell him and see if he will check it all out and work on it. I sure like asking on here what to do or how to fix things you all are good guys.

If you tear into it don't be surprised if you find all the gov. bearings bad and the fan gears bad along with the Left hand cam bearing worn out and many times the cam gear and the matching gear on the gov. These were VERY popular items to sell and hard to find good ones back when I was parting out H's.
